In the spring of 2015, the Smashing Pumpkins decided to reinterpret their classic songs and bring their music to their fans in their In Plainsong tour. After a brief success, the band is ready to hit the road again in 2016 with the second half of In Plainsong.
The tour is designed in an acoustic-electro format, with hits being played in both forms. In addition to Smashing Pumpkins’ music, the tour will feature other songs the band has written for groups such as Zwan, as well as samples from frontman Billy Corgan’s solo career.
The Pumpkins are touring with Liz Phair as supporting artists, and the entire production is meant as a throwback to both artists’ heydays in the mid-nineties. The band will be playing arenas and locations across the continental U.S. on both coasts, including multiple stops in Los Angeles, Texas and New York. The tour kicks off in Portland, Oregon and comes to a close after a multi-night run in different cities in Texas.
Does the band have plans post-tour? Absolutely. Once In Plainsong is completed, the Smashing Pumpkins will return to the studio to write and record a follow up album to their 2014 release, Monuments to an Elegy. Like the tour, the album will be inspired by acoustic-electro sounds and promises to be an exciting new direction for the band.
Tickets are on sale as of February 5th.
